It seems that whenever you start talking fishing with Mario, his eyes light up and a friendship beings! Born and raised in South Texas, Mario calls the Lower Laguna Madre home. He has fished these waters since before he could remember and his passion for “a tight line” has only increased. “Not many people know how special our area is both culturally and biologically...I can’t wait to instill my passion for fishing and a few bits of ‘nerdiness’ with my community”, says Mario.
Mario received his B.S. in Biology at the University of Texas Brownsville, and is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Biology focusing in Marine Biology/Ecology of Estuarine Systems, but hopes to continue on to his PhD in Marine Science. He has done much research on the bay systems and is currently working on the Texas Clipper Artificial Reef offshore. He also works extensively with Sea Turtle Inc. on South Padre Island, TX volunteering at the facility with turtle conservation and rehabilitation.
“I consider Fishing’s Future a great opportunity to serve and educate our future stewards of nature” says Mario, and considers it a great investment so that our natural environments may continue to flourish. Mario is excited to begin a new chapter in Brownsville, TX and knows that it will be something that will connect families and change lives!
