14th Annual Outdoor Kids Day - Fishing Derby

Angling Outreach Event (AOE)
Saturday, August 12, 2017 - 9:00am to 11:00am
  • At the Fishing Derby (Located just South of the Park Office at Lake Henry.) – Learn fish ID’s, improve your casting skills and how to bait your hook from the KDWPT Fisheries Dept.  After the 20 minute talk/instruction kids will fish for their chance to win a fabulous prize!  (The Biggest Fish, Smallest Fish and Most Fish were some of our winners last year.) This your first time fishing?  You’ll be entered into a special First Time Angler Award in a special prize drawing.  Fishing Poles & Bait will be provided, but you can bring your own!    
    A FREE Hotdog sack lunch will be provided for the first 200 people!
  • STICK AROUND and participate in our Archery Program ( 2 pm - 4 pm at the Archery Range near Campground #1) AND our Live Animal program in the evening with Snakes, Turtles and other Kansas Animals ( 7pm - 8 pm at the South Shelter in Campground #3). 

Directions to LAKE HENRY:    798 N. 1415 Road

Take 10 Hwy / Clinton Parkway, West until the road dead-ends (E900 Rd), Take a Right,

 then take the second Left into the State Park.  (It comes right before the Boat Storage Lot.)

 Follow our long drive, down a hill and back up the hill to the entrance booth.  Stop at the Stop sign.

FREE Vehicle Day is Saturday so no need to purchase a vehicle permit!

Take a left after you pass the Entrance Booth.

Cross the street and you’ll see the parking area on your left.

You will be parking in the field across the street from the entrance to Lake Henry access road!  Attendants will be available until 9:15 to make sure you get parked and heading in the correct direction.   Signs will also be posted. 

After you park, you will walk across the street.  Take the second road to your Left and walk down Lake Henry Road.

 

Registration is on the South Side of Lake Henry. 

Look for a White or Blue Awning!

 

Poles and Bait will be provided by the KS Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism - Fisheries Division.   If you wish, you may bring your own equipment and avoid the line to wait for a fishing pole to borrow.
